Painting a wicker chair white.
The wicker must also be totally dry before painting so that the paint adheres properly and goes on evenly.
You ll first need to thoroughly clean the wicker.
You can use chalk paint mineral paint milk paint latex or even an oil base paint on wicker rattan and woven furniture.
Using a standard brush i began applying the paint starting on the front of the chair pushing the paint into the weave.
If you re using chalk mineral or milk paint it needs to be self sealing.
Self sealing paint means it does not need a wax or another type of clear topcoat to seal it to your furniture item.
Prep your wicker furniture by brushing off any loose paint chips dirt or debris with a soft medium bristle brush depending on the age condition of the wicker.
You don t want to end up with a lot of drippy looking sections.
The key is to not glob on a ton of paint on the brush.
Choose a clear day and for best results stay out of the wind lest dirt and leaves blow onto the fresh paint.
If possible try to paint wicker furniture outside where there s adequate ventilation.
Use a gentle soap and water on a sponge to get into all the nooks and crannies.
Then use a shop vac with an attachment to vacuum into the nooks and crannies of the wicker.
